ASCs provide innovative, high-quality, patient-centered care and create a significant savings for patients and the health care system. In 1970, two physicians opened the first ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in Phoenix, AZ to offer patients a convenient, safe and comfortable setting for surgeries. Since that time, ASCs and advancing technologies have changed the face of surgical care with more than 5,200 Medicare-certified facilities delivering more than 22 million surgical and preventive services in all 50 states.
